How a contested election could affect the stock market

 With the presidential election still too close to call and President Trump declaring victory and Joe Biden assuring supporters he's confident all the votes will be counted, early indications are the results will be contested.


Volatility Kicks Up 


That means it's likely investors will see significantly more market volatility over the coming weeks, several experts said. U.S. equities were already choppy early Wednesday carrying over from Tuesday evening.

"In the event of a contested result, we think election-driven volatility (daily market swings) would likely increase following the election and would likely extend until clarity emerges," Craig Fehr, investment strategist at Edward Jones, told FOX Business.

Using the contested 2000 election as a guide, Fehr added that stocks fell 4.2% from Election Day until the Supreme Court ruled on the outcome in the middle of December

Phone companies told to block site

  Nigeria's government has told the country's mobile phone networks to block access to Twitter, a statement from the industry umbrella body said. Phone users are reporting difficulties in accessing the site. It is still available through some wi-fi networks. This comes after the government said it was suspending Twitter operations in the country "indefinitely". It alleged the site was being used to undermine "Nigeria's corporate existence". Twitter has called the ban "deeply concerning". The rape survivors facing an ‘impossible choice’ in Brazil

  Paloma had just cobbled together enough money for a clandestine abortion when the coronavirus pandemic shuttered much of Brazil. The 27-year-old had been raped late last year by an ex-boyfriend who remained a close family friend.
