Bafta TV Awards: Stars both real and virtual

A host of stars are expected at this year’s Bafta Television Awards later, both in physical and virtual form.

Michaela Coel, Graham Norton and Billie Piper are among the nominees expected to physically attend the ceremony at Television Centre in west London.

Others will take part via video call or in hi-tech hologram form.

Comedian Richard Ayoade will host the event, which will kick off with a live performance from Years & Years’ Olly Alexander.

Phone companies told to block site

Nigeria's government has told the country's mobile phone networks to block access to Twitter, a statement from the industry umbrella body said. Phone users are reporting difficulties in accessing the site. It is still available through some wi-fi networks. This comes after the government said it was suspending Twitter operations in the country "indefinitely". It alleged the site was being used to undermine "Nigeria's corporate existence". Twitter has called the ban "deeply concerning". Uber made big promises in Kenya. Drivers say its ruined their lives.

NAIROBI, Kenya — At first, work as an Uber driver seemed to offer Harrison Munala everything he’d hoped for when he moved from a town in the western part of Kenya to its capital, Nairobi. The rape survivors facing an ‘impossible choice’ in Brazil

Paloma had just cobbled together enough money for a clandestine abortion when the coronavirus pandemic shuttered much of Brazil. The 27-year-old had been raped late last year by an ex-boyfriend who remained a close family friend. The mother of two found out she was pregnant a few weeks later, after moving from her native Bahia to Minas Gerais, a nearby state, for work. "I didn't know what to do," recalls Paloma. "The only thing I was certain of was that I didn't want this child." Brazil has strict laws on abortion. Terminations are only allowed in cases of rape, when the mother's life is at risk or when the foetus has the defect anencephaly - a rare condition that prevents part of the brain and skull from developing. While Paloma was entitled to an abortion by law, like many women in Brazil, she was not entirely clear on her rights.
